Why the route is not as short as it looks
Luxor International Airport is on the East Bank, while most West Bank accommodation sits across the Nile among villages and fields. A car cannot use the central passenger ferry, so an airport transfer normally drives to a road bridge and loops back toward your accommodation. The real journey therefore depends on traffic, the bridge route and the exact village lane—not the straight-line distance on a map. Allow roughly half an hour or more in normal conditions, and treat any fixed estimate as a planning guide rather than a promise.
Airport taxi or pre-arranged transfer?
An airport taxi can work for confident independent travellers, but a pre-arranged transfer removes negotiation after a flight and gives the driver the exact property location in advance. That matters on the West Bank, where a villa or apartment may not have the roadside visibility of a large hotel. A good transfer confirmation should state the total fare, vehicle size, included waiting time, meeting point and what happens if the flight is delayed. If you arrive with several large cases, request the right vehicle rather than assuming every airport car can take them.
Meeting your driver
Send the booking name exactly as it appears on your passport and share the flight number, arrival date and mobile number. The driver should monitor the flight and wait after baggage collection, but you should still know the local contact and meeting procedure. If you cannot see the sign, stay inside the arrivals area while calling or messaging; do not accept help from someone who cannot state your name and destination. Late arrivals and village lanes
West Bank villages are peaceful at night, but lanes can be dark and property signs modest. This is another reason to use a driver who already knows the accommodation. Save the ferry for sightseeing once you have checked in. A door-to-door road transfer is normally the calmer arrival, especially for families, groups and late-night flights.
The first hour after check-in
Do not plan a temple visit immediately after arrival unless your flight is early and you have built in a genuine buffer. Check in, drink water, confirm the next morning’s pickup and understand how you will reach the ferry or tour vehicle.
